PARKS FOR THE PUBLIC:  Parks are for People, Not Profit

That is the premise behind this massive effort to save easy walkable access to one of the most popular trails in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles is surrounded by nature. But most of it is hard to reach without a car. This trail is accessible by transit and a short walk. But a few people with the councilmember's ear got the park trailhead closed despite neighorhood and citywide opposition.

Ironically, the Councilmember Ryu cited pedestrian safety walking up the streets to the trail head as one of the main reasons for closing the gate - even though this is one of the safest streets for walking in Los Angeles. It is a shame that real attention was not given to the same street just a dozen blocks south, near a middle school, where fatalities and injuries are quite high.
