WHEN WALKING IS REVOLUTIONARY:  How Do You Promote the Mundane?

Celebrated in over 40 countries, Walk to School Day (WTSD) honors one simple thing, students walking to school.

With epic levels of traffic and scant school busses, Los Angeles needs students walk to school. But prior to 2012, WTSD was not celebrated in Los Angeles. Tens of thousands of LAUSD kids walk to school every day, but could the country's 2nd largest school district promote walking to school if walking was dangerous? WTSD was deemed a risk they could not calculate.

Unofficial 2012 Walk to School Day paved the way. After this groundbreaking celebration of students walking, in 2013 LAUSD and LACity launched their first citywide Walk to School Day, recognizing that all students deserve safe routes to school.
